About 12 – 15% of students are migrants and about 30% of them are at risk of social exclusion. The Institute Gobetti Marchesini-Casale –Arduino (GMCA) is a new educational institution, born in 2016, after the decision of the Local Educational Authorities to unify two old and historical schools of the city of Torino, whose core-curriculum is teaching chemistry, industrial chemistry, biology, bio-techonology.

The management of the GMCA with a distributed and participate leadership has improved the level of integration of two different but complementary curricula, and has bettered the level of cooperation between the staff of two different organizations. The labs learning activities and the permanent process of innovation in the field of ICT are two of the main challenges of the mission of the GMC. An important part of the mission of the school is also to develop the social capital (especially with the stakeholders of the school) through strong and frequent relationships with the University and the academic research (for instance in the field of nano-biotechonology) with the Local Authorities and with industrial organizations (for instance to follow the permanent changes of the labor-market and all the changes in technologies for bio-chemical analysis etc.)

IIS GMCA still connected the hospital school operating with O.I.R.M. hospitals (Ospedale Infantile Regina Margherita), C.T.O. (Center Trauma Hospital), and C.R.F. (Functional Rehabilitation Centre) and with the Molinette hospital. Providing this education service was created to protect the right to health and to the study of the citizens of minor age, suffering from serious diseases.

IIS GMCA also runs a course of vocational studies in business administration and economics and legal framework, complemented by cross-linguistic skills and particular ICT. In the professional scope competences are: the economic and business phenomena, the Civil Code and taxation, enterprise systems (organization, planning, programming, administration and accounting, finance and management control), marketing tools, the insurance / financial products, social economics and politics.

The integration of the expertise of the economic sector with the language and computer is designed to encourage the formation of a professional open to operate in the information system of a company and to contribute both to innovation and to improving organizational and technological enterprise.
The fundamental objective is to provide adequate preparation, which allows graduates to fill new jobs required by the international labor market in rapid transformation. As for foreign languages, students have English as a first foreign language, and choose already in the first two years of the second foreign language from French, German and Spanish.

The institute is also home dell’U.T.S. for Special Educational Needs which acts to enhance the services provided to the disabled and students with difficulties and is also polo school for the network of schools of the City of Turin, and houses the headquarters of the Centre ICT and disabilities, and the province of Turin .
Through the governance-institution of the school all the community (students, parents, local authorities) are called to contribute to setting the problems of the agenda and into the process of decision-making.

Improving quality and quantity of democratic participation has been and is the politics of the management and of the school. This approach – a sort of constitutional document of the identity and mission of the school – has shown positive outcomes .
The school is certified UNI ISO and has got the Accreditamento Regionale by Regione Piemonte.
Our institution is the headschool of an integrated centre of vocational education that includes two vocational schools in Turin in the fields chemistry, biotechnologies, environmental protection and healthcare.
